Bostleman Begins Work on ProMedica Autism Center

Bostleman has begun work on ProMedica’s Autism Center for Clinical Excellence renovation and improvement project. The project includes an interior renovation of the existing day care center, as well as improvements to the two outside playground areas and repaving of the parking lot. The project is scheduled to be completed in late November.

The Autism Center for Clinical Excellence provides early assessment, intervention, and support services for autism spectrum disorder.

Adrian has ten years of experience and is a graduate of the ITT Technical Institute with an Associate Degree in Computer Networking Science. He is married to his wife Alayna, and has four children, Adrian (III), Asia, James, and Daquan.

Groundbreaking News for the Sisters of St. Francis' "Our Lady of Grace Hall" Project

On Friday, July 22, 2011, the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania broke ground on the new Our Lady of Grace Hall Assisted Living facility on the campus of Lourdes College. Bostleman is the construction manager for the project.

The new 14,100 sf addition will be located adjacent to the Rosary Care Center Building on the Lourdes College campus. The new facility will include 17 assisted living suites, a shared warming kitchen/dining area, shared community area, and miscellaneous support spaces.

Construction will begin in mid-September of this year, and the facility is scheduled to be open the Summer of 2012.

Clyde Elementary School Renovation & Addition Project Awarded LEED Gold Certification

Bostleman is pleased to announce that the recently completed Clyde Elementary School renovation and addition project has achieved LEED Gold Certification by the U. S. Green Building Council. Bostleman was the Construction Manager for the project. This is the second LEED Certified school for Clyde-Green Springs EVSD and their district-wide construction program. Clyde High School was awarded LEED Silver Certification earlier this year.

The former South Main Elementary was transformed into the new Clyde Elementary School through a 59,000 square foot renovation and addition following the closure of Vine Street Elementary and its merger with South Main. The project included a 40,000 sf renovation of existing classrooms, administration areas, and the conversion of the former cafeteria into classroom space. The 19,000 sf addition includes eight new classrooms, a state-of-the art media center, cafeteria, and mechanical room. Although Gold Certification was awarded on the new addition only, the renovation portion of project also include green features such as low VOC (volatile organic compounds) finishes and occupancy sensors. Other sustainable features of the project included light pollution reduction, construction waste management, use of products with recycled materials, daylight harvesting system, chilled beam systems, heat island effect: roof, enhanced commissioning, outdoor air delivery monitoring, daylighting and light shelves, and low emitting materials.

Also part of the Clyde-Green Springs District-Wide Construction Program are the Green Springs Elementary and McPherson Middle Schools both of which are pursuing LEED Gold Certification.
LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Bostleman Corp. Founder, Fred Bostleman, Turns 90!

On June 25, 2011, Fred Bostleman, founder of Bostleman Corp., turned 90 years young!

Coming from humble beginnings, Fred graduated from Scott High School in 1939, and in the same year became a civil service employee for the U.S. Army Corps. In 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Corp. and served in World War II as an Aerial Flight Engineer. In 1946, while waiting for discharge, Fred participated in a poker game and by the time it was over, he had won $300. He took his winnings, went home and started his own business as a construction handyman. Fred sought business advice from friends who were accountants, lawyers, etc., and paid for their services by doing construction projects for them. Eventually, Fred’s handyman business became a general contracting firm, the Fred W. Bostleman Company.

Fred and his wife, Kathleen, had three children, Richard, Bonnie, and Mark. In the late 1970’s, after many years of successful construction projects and exciting business ventures, Fred turned control of the company over to his son Richard and it became Bostleman Corp. Now, under the leadership of Bill Bostleman and Jon Harding, Bostleman continues to be a premier construction management firm in Northwest Ohio and throughout the country. Always thanking the Bostleman employees for doing a good job and making him proud, the continued success of Bostleman still amazes Fred after all these years. In fact, in 1996, Fred proudly authored his own book, “Reflections, Life Stories and Observations as the Bostleman Corp. Marks its 50th Anniversary” to share his success story and inspire others to work hard to reach their goals as he did.

Fred remains active in many community organizations. Though retired from Bostleman Corp., he continues to operate his own consulting business while also providing arbitration and mediation services through the American Arbitration Association. Never seeming to slow down, Fred still manages to squeeze in a round of golf now and then, and continues to travel the world as he has always done.

Bostleman celebrated Fred’s landmark birthday at a company luncheon/cookout on June 23rd. Happy 90th Birthday Fred! Keep smiling and one foot in front of the other!

Bostleman Selected as GC for Flower Hospital Cardio Care Project

The project is an interior fit-out of 2,100 sf for a new tenant space within the existing medical office building. The seven week project will start at the end of June and is scheduled for completion in August.

Bostleman was recently awarded the Frederic and Mary Wolfe Gallery renovation project at the Toledo Museum of Art. The project is a 6,000 sf renovation, creating new gallery space from existing shell space. Construction is just underway and the project will be completed in mid-November, 2011.

Clyde High School Project Achieves LEED Silver Certification

Clyde High School is now the first LEED Silver high school in the State of Ohio. Bostleman was the construction manager for this 153,294 sf renovations/additions project at the high school which is part of the Clyde-Green Springs EVSD District-Wide Construction Program.

Sustainable features of the project included construction waste management, light pollution reduction, the use of products with recycled materials, daylight sensors, chilled beam systems, heat island effect: roof, and outdoor air delivery monitoring among several others. Numerous cosmetic upgrades were made along with a much needed parking lot expansion. In addition, the high school now boasts major technology upgrades such as, sound-proofed classrooms, a state-of-the-art security system, and district-wide network system. A new auxiliary gym, expanded kitchen, cafeteria with new equipment, and guidance offices are some of the newest additions to Clyde High School.

Also part of the Clyde-Green Springs EVSD District-Wide Construction Program, Clyde Elementary School, Green Springs Elementary, and McPherson Middle School are pursuing LEED Gold Certification.

University of Toledo Savage Arena Project Earns LEED Gold Certification

The $30 Million renovation and expansion on the campus of the University of Toledo made its debut in November 2008 featuring state-of-the-art amenities and green sustainable building features. Now, in 2011, the newly renovated home of the UT Rockets has achieved LEED Gold Certification through the U.S. Green Building Council. As the construction consultant, Bostleman provided construction management services on the project.

The renovation and expansion project showcases a new basketball court, new video scoreboard and sound system, bowl-style seating accommodating 7,300 fans, new lighting, corporate suites, loges, club seating, new concession stands, and a glass-enclosed lounge with seating for 200 guests. These amenities, in addition to new locker rooms, team rooms and an athletic training room make Savage Arena one of the premier athletic facilities in the Midwest. Heat island effect roof, light pollution reduction, primary HVAC system with VAV reheat, hydronic heat loop under the basketball court, and a steam generating facility within the building to support the entire campus are just some of the green sustainable items incorporated into the project leading up to the LEED Gold Certification.

Two Project Coordinators Join Bostleman’s Team

With the steady increase of incoming projects, Bostleman is excited to announce the addition of two project coordinators to Bostleman, Dan Stein and Jason Benschoter. Both Dan and Jason joined our team earlier this month.

Dan Stein was previously a co-op for Bostleman and is a 2010 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Technology degree, with a Major in Construction Management & Technology. Dan is also a 2008 graduate of Owens Community College where he earned his Associate of Applied Science Degree, with a Major in Architectural Engineering.

Jason Benschoter joins Bostleman from Marous Brothers Construction in the Cleveland area, where he spent two years as a Project Engineer. Jason is a magna cum laude graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Technology degree, with a Major in Construction Management & Technology and a Minor in General Business. Jason is also active in the Ohio Air National Guard (180th Fighter Wing in Swanton), maintaining and servicing equipment to support the F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet.

Lisa Babich Promoted to Senior Project Manager

Bostleman is pleased to announce the recent promotion of Lisa Babich from Project Manager, to Senior Project Manager. Lisa has been with Bostleman for 20 years, having started with the firm while obtaining her AAS Civil Engineering degree from the University of Toledo. Lisa also has her U.S. GBC LEED accreditation.

Lisa has worked on a myriad of successful projects on behalf of Bostleman over the past 20 years, such as a 32-store Kohl’s renovation project on the East Coast, the Congregation B’nai Israel New Synagogue project in Sylvania, Ohio (a Build Ohio Award winning project), the American Red Cross building on the University of Toledo Medical Center campus, and many others. In addition, Lisa is one of Bostleman’s most experienced Senior Project Managers in the education construction segment, completing projects for Toledo School for the Arts, Whitmer High School, Holy Trinity Parish, and multiple schools for the Ohio School Facilities Commission. Lisa has most recently been assigned to manage the current Sylvania City School District’s construction program.

Lisa and her husband Tony have three daughters, Emily, Jessica and Kaitlyn.

Bostleman Selected As Construction Manager for New Project at The Toledo Hospital

Bostleman is pleased to announce that we have recently been selected by ProMedica Health System as the construction manager for their newest project at The Toledo Hospital -- a 31,000 sf hospital build out of 10th floor shell space into a neuro ICU and intermediate unit. The project is just underway in the preconstruction phase and is scheduled for completion in December 2011. After successfully performing as the construction manager for the $100 million Toledo Hospital Renaissance Project (completed in 2007), Bostleman is once again excited to get back on the hospital’s campus for this new and exciting project.

Davis College Exterior Façade Improvements (Toledo, Ohio)

Bostleman will complete exterior façade improvements to both buildings on the Davis College campus. Work includes creation of a new defined main entry with a new tower element, new exterior surface materials including a combination of EIFS and Metal Panels, new landscape, and improved exterior student courtyard. Construction will take place while classes are in session.

Roman-Peshoff Office Addition and Renovations Project (Holland, Ohio)

This project includes an 1,800 sf office addition and renovations to existing office spaces and parking lot improvements. Construction will take place as the office remains open.

The Torch Award is given to businesses who are nominated for the award in recognition of their valuable contributions to marketplace ethics. Bostleman Completes Wood County Hospital Expansion Project

Bostleman is pleased to announce the completion of the Wood County Hospital’s New Bed Tower/Surgery Addition and Renovation project. Bostleman served as the construction manager for the project.

Major improvements in this 115.000 sf expansion project included a new spacious and welcoming first floor offering comfort and convenience. Also on the first floor is a new Women’s Diagnostic center, designated to the prevention, treatment, and health education needs of women. Six new state-of-the-art surgical units were added with specialized rooms for cystoscopy, minor procedures, and two rooms for endoscopy. On the second floor are 56 new private patient rooms, each offering better patient privacy and comfort. With these and many other improvements and amenities, Wood County Hospital’s goal “to better serve the public, whether they are inpatients, outpatients, or visitors” has certainly been achieved.

Bostleman’s Toledo Zoo Nature’s Neighborhood Project Takes Second Place at AGC 2009 Build Ohio Awards

The Associated General Contractors of Ohio hosted the 2009 Build Ohio Awards Gala on Friday, November 13, 2009, at the Hilton Columbus. The awards program recognizes members of the AGC of Ohio for excellence in construction. Bostleman entered The Toledo Zoo’s Nature’s Neighborhood Project in the category of “New Construction Under $7 Million”. Although we did not bring home the first place bronze trophy, we are still very proud of our second place honor. Congratulations to Ron Hanna (Senior Project Manager), Aaron Daman (Project Manager), and Joe Moser (Superintendent) on a job well done!

Nature’s Neighborhood meant more to Bostleman than just another construction project. Bostleman truly became part of the Zoo’s team, attending the presentations for architect selection and ensuring the needs of every critter, curator, keeper, department operational entity, governmental authority, and visitor would be satisfied. The details on this project ran the gamut from a decade of future bond issue cash flow projections, right down the specific humidity/temperature requirements that needed to be maintained in the ant colony exhibit.

Awards aside, the true satisfaction for Bostleman is our role in the success of the Nature’s Neighborhood project where kids of all ages can play, splash, jump, climb and crawl, while building childhood memories at the Zoo that they will never forget.

On a related note, Bostleman congratulates Mosser Construction on their first place Build Ohio award on the Savage Arena Renovation, a project in which Bostleman played an important role as Construction Consultant.

Sylvania City Schools Break Ground on New Hill View Elementary

Despite being a cold and rainy Fall day, it did not dampen the excitement at the October 9, 2009, groundbreaking ceremony of the Sylvania City School District’s new Hill View Elementary School. Bostleman has been retained as the construction consultant for Sylvania City Schools' district-wide construction program, which includes the new Hill View Elementary School project. The new $7.1 Million, 46,767 sf elementary school will be located on the same property as the existing school on Whiteford Road in Sylvania. Most of the existing elementary school will be demolished over the summer. The gymnasium, cafeteria, art room, and music room of the existing building will remain and tie into the new building. The new school will include a geothermal field for building heating needs and three classrooms at each grade level (1-5). According to Bostleman Senior Project Managers Joe Swint and Jason Toth who are managing the district's construction program, the new Hill View Elementary School is scheduled to be completed in December of 2010. Bostleman Enters Toledo Zoo Nature’s Neighborhood Project in 2009 Build Ohio Award Contest

Bostleman is excited to have entered the recently completed Toledo Zoo Nature’s Neighborhood project in the Associated General Contractors 2009 Build Ohio Award Contest. The awards program recognizes members of the AGC of Ohio for excellence in construction. The Nature’s Neighborhood project will be competing with other high-profile Ohio construction projects in the category of, “New Construction Under $7 Million.” Each entry is judged on four project criteria: Meeting the Challenge of a Difficult Job, Excellence in Client Service, Excellence in Project Management, and Innovative Construction Techniques and Materials. The award winners will be announced at the Build Ohio Award Celebration Gala on Friday evening, November 13, 2009, at the Hilton Columbus.

Bostleman previously won the coveted award and the custom-made Build Ohio Statue that comes with it in 2003 for the Trinity Episcopal Church Nave Renewal Project, in 2007 for the Congregation B’nai Israel New Synagogue Project, and in 2008 for the Toledo Hospital Renaissance Project.

Bostleman supports the goals and concepts of green construction and sustainable design that are embodied in the standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). In fact, most of Bostleman’s project managers are LEED Accredited professionals. Bostleman realizes that Green Sustainable Building practices is not a trend, but a mainstay in the construction industry. Bostleman is seeing many of its clients share this same commitment to Green Building:

The University of Toledo is in the process of achieving Gold certification on the recently completed Savage Arena Renovation/New Athletic Complex by incorporating a heat island effect: roof, light pollution reduction, primary HVAC system VAV with reheat, and hydronic heat loop under gym floor; The Clyde-Green Springs School District is seeking Silver Certification by applying Green principals to their construction projects as well: exterior downward lights, enhanced refrigeration management, reduce construction waste, use products with recycled material, use of daylight sensors, solar hot water heaters, chilled beam systems, and use of indigenous plants.

Bostleman Announces Promotions

Bostleman is pleased to announce the promotion of two associates. Jason Weis was recently named Senior Project Manager with Bostleman. Jason has been with Bostleman for eleven years and was among the first of our project managers to become a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional. Aaron Daman, who has been with Bostleman for five years, has been promoted to Project Manager. Aaron is also a LEED Accredited Professional and among the first with the company to obtain this accreditation.

WILL WORK FOR PEANUTS! Toledo Zoo Project Underway…With Help From Louie!

After completing the first two projects of the Toledo Zoo’s Phase I Master Plan (north parking lot renovations and the newly opened Nature’s Neighborhood), Bostleman hit the ground running and has already begun work on the third and final project of Phase I – the elephant/hippo/rhino renovation.

The Toledo Zoo has designated elephants and rhinos as priority species for breeding to aid in the species preservation. To accomplish this, the Zoo’s current indoor/outdoor facilities will be enhanced and enlarged to meet the American Zoo and Aquarium Associations’ requirements for breeding. Work currently in progress includes the bull facility and yard. New and expanded viewing areas will be provided, as well as enrichment and training features.

Not only is the Toledo Zoo and Bostleman excited to get the renovation project underway, but “baby” Louie, is anxious to help keep the project moving. Here, Louie takes time out of his busy day, to show us that he is a safety conscious elephant and wears his hard hat as he over looks the construction project.
